Countless churches, narrow alleys, stone stairways, little squares, constitute the general aspect of Mykonos chora.
Most known is the church of Panagia Paraportiani (the little gate), called by this name because it lies next to the gate of a medieval castle. This church is considered part of the indigenous architecture of Cyclades.
Another well known characteristic is the windmills, with a cylindrical form and light sails. Parts of their machinery remain intact until now. |
